Equine Influenza Tragedy in Australia - Will we be next?

I was searching for a topic in Google and came across a website that was hosting a blog for people in Australia who were being affected by the Equine Influenza outbreak there. What a devastating situation for these horse people.

I was shocked and discusted by the treatment of some of these people. The ones with "family horses" and not high class race horses were completely ignored when they plead for help for their horses.

Will we be next here in the U.S.? Is it possible for EI to situate itself here like it did in Australia? Is our vaccination program sufficient enough to prevent this from occurring here? It scares me to death!
