I have been looking to take on a 5th horse for my family, and I've been considering adopting one from a horse sanctuary. I thought it was a good idea, but then I realized I'm not familiar with any in my area. Can anyone help me out? Where is the best rated horse rescue center in my home state of Oklahoma?

Oklahoma seems to have a bounty of horse rescue centers. It was kind of you to ask because I am picturing a situation where you have to go around without much knowledge of a place(a harrowing experience indeed) I found a link on horse rescue but I would still go by the word of the residents; they will usually have leads on the best places. All the best

I feel so sad with different stories behind those rescued horses. I know that i should be thankful that atleast they are rescued but to know the fact that they had been abandoned by their owners makes me feel sad.Not only with horses, but with other animals like dogs and cats. I feel guilty when i left my dog to my neighbor for i cannot keep him anymore, i think the horse will feel the same way as my dog do.

I also feel the same way towards this kind of treatment towards animals post number 2, but there is nothing we can do about it, are we?I think we just have to go and speak to this people through this forum on how we view this things up and how we feel about it.. I have two kittens that i adopted in a local emergency clinic for stray and abandoned pets near my apartment.

Try hamburger factories! Also movie sets, I hear that if they use horses for pictures, right after they finish thay are all culled, no reason to keep feeding them! Horses are expensive to maintain, unless you have a farm and in that case the food (grass or hay) is free.I really feel sorry for the animals. I hear that in some state out west the mustang horses are shot from helicopters, and we should write our congressmen about this. Good luck!

Not a big fan of adoption. At least, not when it comes to animals. I would much prefer to buy a thoroughbred and call that 'George'. Not literally, though. It's just a saying, call that, 'that'.

Oh well I think everything depends on personal preference. So if one feels like adopting then let them be.

Well you have a point there Shiggy, I also think that it depends on the preference of the people involve. Like if you would want to adopt a pet or any kind of animal then go ahead, or some would prefer to buy them. But I wonder what is more advisable, to buy or to adopt? What would be the benefit of adopting and what would be the benefit of buying?

Well besides Balzes which was provided by cwemoy, I have also stumbled on another one. Check this another non-profit equine adoption center near Oklahoma named Angel Horse Rescue, Inc: • Page 1 (Original Post) •
