| Does equine massage benefit an equine athlete? I own an 8 year old barrel horse. In the past, he was involved in a scuffle in a trailer where another horse went over his back while his head was tied up to the side of the trailer.Since then, he has had a lot of muscle soreness and back issues. He was an average performer until this past 5 months. I sought the advice of an equine massage therapist and had him worked on once a week since that time. Not only have his barrel racing times improved by over two seconds a run (that is a LOT in barrel racing), but he is happier, more comfortable and can once again lift his back and use his whole body to collect himself properly. In my personal experience, had I not found a way to relieve some of his pain through sports massage, I don't think he would be a very successful barrel horse. I believe that equine massage is an absolute benefit and my gelding is the proof in the pudding. The massages, since they are deep tissue, have also built muscle without him even setting foot in the riding ring. Anyone who questions the benefit of using massage therapy on a horse, or scoffs about whether it actually helps, has probably never had their horse massaged and personally seen the results. Do you have a horse that is not performing at their best? Do you wonder why? Does anyone have any personal experience with equine massage? Surely, I can't be the only one who has seen the benefits of this. Anyone who has questions is welcome to ask them. I would be glad to share my experiences. Expert Page: Barrel Horse Resource |
