Hello, I am writing as I have a situation and am in need of guidance.
My gelding is 27 years old and a thoroughly wonderful horse and from the time I purchased him, as a starving 24 year old, I envisioned seeing him through his life however long it was going to be.
Just recently I discovered I have a rare condition called Chiari Malformation, in short, my skull is too small and brain parts are being squished, mostly my brainstem.
Because of this, I cannot afford for Harrison to bump me or hit my head, no matter how innocently, with his head.
The condition alone could cause me to be lose functionality in my limbs, working with a horse, puts me at a much higher risk.
With Harrison's age and limited usability, I fear for his safety in the future and feel it is imperative, I try to work with a rescue league to make certain he is kept as far away from a slaughter house as possible.
Harrison is sound, especially for a 27 year old, who was raced and then had a long career as a hunter. He is a cribber and he does require 1mg of Pergolide for his Cushings Dieseae. He is up to date on vaccinations and Coggins. As of this coming Friday he will have his hooves trimmed and I will deworm him as well.
If you are able to help me place my horse, I would be very grateful. Please contact me if there are other resources available.
Thank you,
Tiffany
